"Lorraine Schwartz Outta Do:" The JAY-Z Lyric That Embodies the Catholic Imagination
Last night, May 7, 2018, was the first (and most important) Monday in May, meaning one thing, fashion's biggest night, the Met Gala. This event is a fundraising gala held annually to benefit the Costume Institute housed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The gala is a celebration of the grand opening of the fashion exhibition within the Costume Institute, curated annually. The exhibition's theme sets the style parameters and overall inspiration for the night's formal festivities.
This year's theme was entitled "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" inspired by and paying homage to the influential style of the Roman Catholic era. As characteristic for most events, the night is filled with celebrities serving as honorary guests dressed in the most creative and costly attire by some of fashion's heavy hitters, and this year no stone went unturned, literally. From gold crosses to diamond encrusted pendants, jewelry was all rave this year, and the decision for most looks was a simple as this classic Jay-Z lyric, "Lorraine Schwartz Outta Do."
